Each year www.dorothyswebsite.org was pleased to be able to present the works of special guest artists. The guest artists were invited to display works which in some way either expressed or interpreted the summer theme, which in 2008 was "METAMORPHOSES". The summer of 2008 included works of infrared photographs which were included in the blank spaces on the page below. (Since agreements with Guests Artists were for a specified time period only, the works are not included on the site at this time.)

For those unfamiliar with infrared photography, an example of the transformation of a subject being photographed by capturing infrared (IR) light appears above. On the left, the scene appears as it would photographed in regular daylight. On the right, the scene is captured as an infrared photograph. The photographs below are all infrared photographs that have been processed as black and white prints. The photographer's digital camera (Canon Rebel XT) has been specially modified to take only infrared photographs. The camera captures images in the near-infrared range, which is infrared light just beyond the range of human vision. The camera does not capture far infrared (heat) radiation. The photographs rely on subjects that reflect a good amount of near-IR light. This is particularly noticeable in sunlit foliage, which appears with a whitish tone. Some visible light is captured as well, so the end result is an image that is mostly IR with an additional visual light component.
