AN INTRODUCTION TO THE AI IMAGES ON THE CONCERT PAGES. This year's theme, explained more on the "News" and "About the Site" pages, focuses on images produced by AI-powered text-to-image generators. For those who are not familiar with the programs, they are online-based AI systems which generate an image from text input into the system. There are several systems, among them DALL-E, Midjourney and the one from which most of this site's images were generated, the ImagineArt art generator, found at www.imagine.art. The two images above, which took just seconds to be generated, were (on the left) from the text "a perfect woman," and (on the right) from the text "a perfect white woman with light brown hair and green eyes wearing a bright pink sweater, white pants and black shoes, sitting on a wooden park bench under a blooming cherry tree." While the fact that these AI images generators exist is remarkable, and the results can be spectacular, they are not without their inconsistencies. Look, for example at the top slat on the bench on the picture on the right. It does not align properly in the area behind the woman's back.

What is being included on the COUNTY "Concerts by City," COUNTY "Concerts By Date" and "Concert by Type of Music" pages is a narrative with and about the images produced over several weeks in May and June of this year from the ImagineArt text-to-image generator. The generator used was the first-generation one; their second generation (V2) generator is now available and sits in the primary position on the log-in page. What was the purpose? When I started, the purpose was simply to find the system's reaction to the word "perfect" attached as a modifier to as simple an additional word as possible. In some cases a few extra words were added where necessary (which will be explained more in the text below and on the other pages). For consistency, only one text-to-image generator was used to try to understand how that particular AI system "thinks," particularly for a word expressing a concept which even most humans might not agree upon. The images perhaps might generate a bit of discussion and debate. To follow the entire narrative, begin on the county "Concerts By City" pages, which includes images primarily of people, then go to the county "Concerts By Date" pages, which include images of a variety of other things. For a bit of fun, the "Concerts By Type of Music" page concludes with images the system displayed for bands, ie a perfect rock band, a perfect country music band, a perfect mariachi band, etc.

A couple of other notes. First, the image here on the left appeared a few times in place of an image which should have been generated. Also, due to the number of families visiting this site, any images in which some type of nudity made it through the computer's "censor" have not been included. There were a number of times I found myself wondering "What makes that perfect?" about the images produced, or just "Huh?" It seems that to this AI system "perfection" in people involves youth, little clothing, great pecs in men and a significant bustline in women, while perfection in other things involves a good deal of symmetry. But for all of these images, remember one thing - they were produced by a computer AI system, and though we may judge them with all our human thoughts, feelings and opinions, that is not something (that as of yet) a computer is able to do.

Continuing here from the Los Angeles County Concerts By Date page . . . AI images generated from the text "A Perfect Cake." The two images on the right both have nonsensical words written on the plates at the base of the cakes. This type of jibberish in place of actual words was fairly common in the images produced. It seemed as though the system "knew" that words often accompany things like cakes but without "understanding" exactly what those words might or should be.

Another AI image generated from the text "A Perfect Wedding." Here the two women/one man scenario that showed up in the "Perfect Family" images on the "Concerts By City" page appears again. It seems as though the groom is kissing one woman (bride?) while at the same time holding the hand of another woman (bride?). It also isn't terribly clear if the woman kissing the man has a right arm or what the appendage that looks like some type of a stump actually is supposed to be.
