This photograph, courtesy of the New York Public Library archives digital gallery (gallery permalink: http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/id?1654272), is the model for
the sculpture called "Day" which was part of the "Moods of Time" group on Constitution Mall at the New York World's Fair of 1939. The description of the sculpture reads as follows: "Energy and radiance which accompany the daylight hours are suggested by this model
of the sculpture "Day" created by Paul Manship for his "Moods of Time" fountain group which will be one of the principal decorative features of the mile-long Constitution Mall . . . The speeding figure carrying the sun and
accompanied by charging horses portrays the effect of the moods of time upon the activities of mankind. By a novel arrangement of fountains and lights, the 15-foot sculpture will be given a semblance of life-like movement."
