  • September 22 - University Choir and Orchestra, Debut Concert. Dr. John Sutton, conductor. The performance launches the 2012-13 season and will take place at 6 p.m. in Wilden Hall on the East Campus.

  • September 23 - Symphony Orchestra. The APU, directed by Christopher Russell, will present a concert at 4 p.m. in the Upper Turner Campus Center on the east campus. The program will include Ravel: Pavane, Bartok: Piano Concerto No. 3, fetauring pianist Joel Clifft, Lutoslawski: Chain 3, and Stravinsky: Firebird Suite.

BALDWIN PARK

September 29 - Skate Rock Fest. Skate Rock Fest will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Park Skate Park/Teen Center, 15050 Badillo. September 11 - Patriot Day Concert. Cerritos residents and community members are invited to attend the special Patriot Day concert to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Park, 18600 Bloomfield Avenue. The event will be held in honor of the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. The evening will include a brief ceremony with the Cerritos City Council, a moment of silence, and a concert featuring patriotic music. CITY OF INDUSTRY

September 15 and 16 - Ticket to the Twenties Festival at the Homestead Museum. The festival celebrates the Roaring '20s with two days of dance demonstrations and lessons with the Hollywood Hotshots, silent film screenings with musical accompaniment by Michael Mortilla, ukulele sing-alongs and lessons, Mah-Jongg tutorials, historic house tours, crafts, music, games, vintage automobiles and merchandise and food vendors. On Saturday there also will be music by Dean Mora and His Modern Rhythmists with emcee Maxwell De Mille, and Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys, plus fashion shows coordinated by costumer Natalie Meyer. On Sunday there will be music by Ian Whitcomb and His Dance Band and the Night Blooming Jazzmen, plus a fashion show by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles. 1920s dress is encouraged; bring blankets or lawn chairs for the outdoor concerts, and Prohibition will be strictly enforced.   • September 27 - Claremont McKenna College: Oliver Messianen's Harawi - Chant d'amour et de mort. September 11 - Lakewood Patriot Day Concert - The annual concert and program will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. in Del Valle Park, 5939 Henrilee Street at Woodruff. The evening will include a concert of patriotic music by the Huntington Beach Concert Band, a keynote address by Lieutenant Colonel John T. Giese, Jr. of the U.S. Marine Corps, an Iraq War veteran, a memorial candle lighting and moment of silence to pay tribute those lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the men and women of the nation's armed forces and public safety agencies. LONG BEACH

September 1, 2, and 3 - Long Beach Greek Festival. The 63rd Annual Long Beach Greek Festival will take place from noon - 9 p.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 5761 E. Colorado Street. There will be Greek food and drink sales, Greek music by The Olympians, dance performances and lessons, a full carnival, specialty shops, tours of the church and Greek cooking classes. Parking is available at Cal State Long Beach, and a free shuttle will be available to the Festival. There is free admission on Monday from noon - 5 p.m. and every day for firemen, police and members of the military with ID. September 1 and 2 - E Hula Mau Hawaiian Festival. The E Hula Mau festival will be held at the Terrace Theater, 300 E. Ocean Boulevard, and at the Westin Long Beach Hotel Lobby, 333 East Ocean Blvd. Fee for some performances, workshops and lectures. Free performances will take place from 9 p.m. - midnight in the Westin Long Beach Hotel Lobby and from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on the outdoor plaza stage. September 3 - Shoreline Village Beach Party. The Shoreline Village Beach Party will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. There will be performances by Hui 'O Hula (Polynesian Dance) at 11:30 a.m., surf band The Chantays from 2 - 5 p.m., and New Caribbean (Steel Drum Band) from 6 - 9 p.m. The event also will include limbo and hula hoop contests, crafts for children and the Miss Shoreline Village bikini contest (registration required for bikini contest on Shoreline Village website). September 8 - Latin American Parade and Festival. The 4th Annual Latin American Parade and Festival presented by Wal-Mart will take place in Downtown Long Beach from 3 - 9 p.m. The parade will take place from 3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Pine Avenue at 6th Street and will be followed by a festival at 4th Street/Promenade. The festival will take place until 9 p.m. and include live music, family activities, authentic Latin American cuisine for purchase and a vendor fair. September 1 - UCLA Hammer Museum Programs. wild Up concert - Bach-BQ. September 22 - Pasadena Symphony and Pops Music Under the Stars. This year's concert will celebrate the life of Marvin Hamlisch, and the orchestra will be playing many of his most memorable songs. August 31, September 1 & 2 - San Gabriel Mission Fiesta. The San Gabriel Mission Fiesta will begin on August 31 and continue on Sept. 1 and 2.
