HACIENDA HEIGHTS

October 1 - World Festival of Sacred Music Event. Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Choir and the Agape International Choir. The 165-member Agape International Choir joins the forty monastics of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Choir in their sanctuary at the Hsi Lai Temple. The Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Choir celebrates the pristine sound of Buddhist chanting, and the Agape Choir performs songs written by Music Director Dr. Rickie Byars-Beckwith and the Spiritual Director of Agape International Spiritual Center, Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith. The event takes place from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Lo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights, 3456 South Glenmark Drive. Please call and make reservations. NORTH HOLLYWOOD

September 18 - World Festival of Sacred Music Event. Hun Lakorn Lek Puppet Theater Troupe of Thailand. In an afternoon of Thai culture, artistic director Sakorn Yangkhiawsod, consecrated by the Thai Royal Family as National Artist in Performance Art, leads the only troupe in Thailand that performs this intricate and elegant art form. The puppeteers are classically-trained Khon dancers who work together in perfect unison on stage to produce the incredibly lifelike human movements and personality of each puppet. Also classical dance and music from the temple's music and dance troupes led by Kungwan Kurdpon. Event takes place beginning at 4 p.m. at Wat Thai, 12909 Cantara Street, North Hollywood. PASADENA

Levitt Pavilion Summer Concerts - Performances take place every Wednesday - Sunday through September 4. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday performances begin at 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. All concerts are in the Levitt Pavilion in Memorial Park, corner of Walnut and Raymond (near the Fair Oaks exit from the 210 Freeway).
