"ROSE-SPOTTED ANEMONE AMONG BRITTLE STARS" (Santa Barbara Island) September 22 - Julia McNeill Senior Center Grand Opening. The City of Baldwin Park will celebrate the grand opening of the Senior Center beginning at 11 a.m. There will be an open house, demonstrations of classes geared toward seniors, and entertainment by the Mariachi Divas. DANA POINT AND DANA POINT HARBOR September 8 and 9 - Toshiba Tallships Festival - The Ocean Institute celebrates its 23rd year hosting the largest gathering of tallships on the West Coast. The festival will feature an array of family activities including live chantey music, art shows, living history demonstrations, and food vendors. Also maritime displays and presentations, Polynesian dancers, interactive pirate encampment and cannon battles. The Swerve Festival is a new annual film, art and music festival celebrating the creative culture of action sports with film and video screenings, live music performances, art exhibitions and workshops and more. The primary venue for the event will be Barnsdall Park, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, though some screenings and music performances will take place at other area venues. Music performances take place Saturday and Sunday. Saturday bands at Barnsdall Park include Illinois (Roots), Snowden (Indie Rock), Foreign Born (Garage Pop), and the Black Angels (Psych-Rock). There will also be a late night party on Saturday night at Echoplex featuring Bonde Do Role, Juiceboxxx, LA Riots, The Toxic Avenger and DJs Franki Chen and Paparazzi.
