THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ

" . . . We get up at twelve and start to work at one
Take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done
Jolly good fun
Ha ha ha, ho ho ho
And a couple of tra la las
That's how we laugh the day away
In the merry old land of Oz"

From "Merry Old Land of Oz," music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, in The Wizard of Oz

Long before marvelous superheroes
Fought an ultra-nemesis through space and time
A girl and her dog, in a much simpler tale
Flew by house to a far-off technicolor world
Where witches and munchkins and flying monkeys
Watched her path to a glistening city of green.
There she placed her faith in a powerful wizard,
His frightful smoke and holograms of greatness,
Until she realized the illusion of it all.
And in those tales of near and far, then and now
Over and over the stories remind us that
In never-ending quests for power and greatness
We must pay attention to who's behind the curtain.
