VARIOUS LOCATIONS - ADDITIONAL NOVEMBER ARTS/PERFORMANCE-RELATED EVENTS:

October 30 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. Two presentations by Japanese scholars from the Kanda University of International Studies. The program will take place at 1 p.m. in the Green Room, 1230 Schoenberg Music Building. Find additional details on the sessions on the UCLA website event pages. November 3, 8 and 10 - Colburn School Programs. Library Live: Running the Show. Led by trombonist and educator Callan Milani, the three-part workshop will guide participants through the full process of producing a live performance from the first idea to the final note. Participants will attend the LA Philharmonic's "Symphonies for Youth" as part of the course. The workshop will give students hands-on experience in programming, storytelling and performance. Dates and times are November 3 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., November 8 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., and November 10 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. On-campus events will take place in the Colburn library. The sessions are free but an RSVP is required. The Colburn School is located at 200 South Grand across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. November 6 - LA Plaza de Cultura Y Artes Programs. Platica: Impact of the Vietnam War on the Musicians of East LA's Golden Era. In the period from 1965 - 1973, East LA's musical community had to live and perform with the specter of the draft and going to Vietnam hanging over their heads. For many, their bands broke up or their careers ended because they not only lost momentum but due to PTSD had no desire to, or simply couldn't, contiue. There will be a panel of three musicians/Vietnam-era veterans discussing their experiences. Panelists will be Jerry Salas, lead singer of El Chicano, Sal Murillo, lead singer of the Blendells, and Fred Rivera, whose band Genesis was performing on the Sunset Strip when he was drafted. November 6 and 7 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. On November 6 at 11 a.m. in Lani Hall, Funckentelechy: Langston Hughes' Blues Vision in Ryan Coogler's Sinners. The talk will highlight ways in which Langston Hughes and Ryan Coogler represent and exemplify salient elements of the Blues ethos, while doing so nearly a century apart in nonmusical mediums. On November 7 at noon in Lani Hall, "Careers for Aspiring Dance Music Professionals." Those with an interest in the area of Dance Music can learn from industry professionals' experiences via an interactive panel and following lunch. November 8 - Mix at the Museum: A Roland Free Day at the Grammy Museum. Enjoy free admission, special workshops, live performances and more at the Grammy Museum. The day's events will include a live looping jam session and live jam, a special workshop presented by Roland and Venice Music, DJs spinning on the Museum rooftop and other live performances. November 14 and 17 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. On November 14, two programs. At 1 p.m. in the Green Room (1230 Schoenberg Music Building), Boundaries, Space and Register in Beethoven with Malcolm Miller. At 8 p.m. in Lani Hall, "The Legacy of Jalil Shahnaz." The program will honor one of the most distinguished masters of the tar and a towering figure in Iranian contemporary music. On November 17 at 5 p.m. in Lani Hall, the Berry Gordy Speaker Series. The series hosts talks aiming to inspire and educate the next generation of music industry professionals by providing direct access to those shaping the industry. November 19 - Beverly Hills Library Programs. Shhh . . . Quiet in the Library: Silent Movie Screenings with Live Musical Accompaniment. Movies screen at 7 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. The November film will be Sunrise, with Janet Gaynor and George O'Brien. LONG BEACH - KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND (TURN)TABLE. Knights of the Round (Turn)Table is a monthly event modeled after a book club. Each month a different historically significant album is chosen, and participants listen to both sides and discuss it. Back in the day, people used to listen to the records while staring at the album artwork and liner notes. The programs seek to recreate this experience in the company of other music lovers. The October event took place at 6:30 p.m. on October 30 at Beachwood Brewing, 3630 Atlantic Avenue, with the Rod Stewart album "Every Picture Tells a Story." LOS ANGELES - DOWNTOWN AND VICINITY LA Opera Community Opera. The LA Opera's Community Opera production will once again be returning in the spring for performances at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels. Performances of Noah's Flood will take place on May 8 and 9 in 2026. LOS ANGELES COUNTY - LACMA FALL PROGRAMS The Los Angeles County Museum of Art makes available a publication called The Guide. The Guide includes information on LACMA's Education and Public Programs for Fall 2025, including music programs. The Guide can be downloaded in pdf format. LOS ANGELES (VARIOUS LOCATIONS) - LATINO/HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH AND AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH. Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month programs and activities in Los Angeles continue in October and into the start of November. Check the website listed to download the guide for events and/or exhibits which will be taking place.   • WHITTIER - Whittier Art Stroll Uptown. No current dates listed. The Whittier Art Stroll Uptown takes place from 5 - 9 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. The event includes art from more than 40 artists, plus live music, treats, a variety of vendors and more. A variety of events are hosted primarily at local businesses.   • BOWERS MUSEUM - First Sunday of the month - family programs are generally from about 12:30 - 3 p.m. (see concert pages). Museum address is 2002 N. Main Street in Santa Ana.   • BROAD MUSEUM - The Broad is LA's new contemporary art museum. It is located in downtown Los Angeles on Grand Avenue next to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The museum is closed on Monday; hours vary on other days of the week. Advanced tickets may be reserved online, or there is an onsite standby line each day for admission on a first-come basis.   • CALIFORNIA AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM - Target Sundays are every second Sunday of the month.   • CHINO YOUTH MUSEUM - The Chino Youth Museum offers Free First Friday programs from 3 - 5 p.m. Programs include art projects, snacks, time to explore the museum, exhibits and entertainment.   • FIRE STATION/MUSEUM OPEN HOUSES - Two area historical fire stations offer free tours on Saturdays. In San Pedro, Old Fire Station 36 (located at 638 Beacon Street) is open from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. In Hollywood, Old Fire Station 27 is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both offer a variety of artifacts and exhibits.   • THE GETTY CENTER - Free admission; parking is $15, but $10 after 5 p.m. The museum does not require parking reservations. Off the 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive.   • GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY - There is no admission charge to enter the observatory, but a fee for planetarium shows. Monthly public star parties offer the public a chance to try out telescopes and talk with amateur astronomers from 2 - 9:45 p.m. Check for upcoming star party dates.   • HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, ART COLLECTIONS AND BOTANICAL GARDENS - Free admission the first Thursday of every month. Tickets are required and reservations become available on the first date of the month prior to the visit (i.e. reservations for the first Thursday in August become available starting July 1).   • THE IRVINE MUSEUM OF ART - The Irvine Museum of Art is a small OC museum dedicated to the preservation and display of California art of the Impressionist period (1890 - 1930). 18881 Von Karman Street, Irvine, Ground Level.   • PAGE MUSEUM AT THE LA BREA TAR PITS - The Page Museum allows visitors to watch fossil excavation and assembly and has interactive displays of the Tar Pits and Southern California during the Ice Age.   • SKIRBALL CULTURAL CENTER - The Skirball Cultural Center is open with free admission every Thursday, and also a variety of both free and fee performances and activities.   • "DISTINCTIVE VOICES AT THE BECKMAN CENTER" AT UC IRVINE - Insights on Science, Technology and Medicine lectures. Events usually run September through June. Lectures are at 7 p.m. in the Beckman Center on the UCI campus and open to the public. Programs are by reservation only and fill up quickly. HOLIDAY EVENTS/ACTIVITIES

      As has been a tradition on the site, a few other free holiday events and offers are always included here even though they are not necessarily music-related events per se. Information for 2025 will begin posting shortly and continue to be added through the end of December.
